Be Your Weekend Self with Morgan from @theconvenientgreen

We've got another wonderful Be Your Weekend Self instalment! We spoke to Morgan who runs the Instagram account @theconvenientgreen, sharing advice and her own journey with simple, sustainable, low waste city living. Her reels are fun and full of advice - which is how we first found her!

Morgan told us all about her journey into living consciously, her sustainability journey, road-tripping the USA (we're jealous!) and being an environmental engineer.

How do you start every day?

Coffee. Black. And then try to read one chapter of my book.

What do you do to make sure you enjoy the week as much as the weekend?

I am 100% remote right now for work, so have been road tripping within the US & staying in different states for extended periods of time. I try to explore every minute I can since it is a brand new place and I want to make sure to see everything before I move on! It has been truly awesome.

Who or what inspires you the most to live out your day to the fullest?

I am inspired by all of the places in the world I have yet to visit. I think the one really great thing about social media is that it connects you to so many people and places from around the world, something that I wouldn’t have access to if not for the apps. I love exploring new cities, restaurants, hikes, TikTok trends, etc. whenever I can!

How do your clothes impact your mood?

I got in a very bad habit of only dressing for zoom calls from the waist up since I have now been virtual for so long. That outfit sort of signified to me - okay, we are staying in today, you have your zoom outfit on. I feel like dressing up for the day really makes me feel more confident and ready to hop into whatever is thrown my way.

What’s your go-to weekend recipe or tipple?

Vodka. Gimlet. Baby. Full disclosure: I had to Google the meaning of tipple!

What have you read/watched/listened to recently that you’d highly recommend?

"Ghosts: a Novel” by Dolly Alderton. If you are single in your 30s, or have friends that are single in their 30s, this book will hit home. It was SO good.

What Newt item(s) of clothing would you pick out for a fun-filled day?

Silky cami and shorts in lilac. They are lovely. I am the type of person who would truly wear that to sleep, roll out of bed, and then dress it up with black booties and a leather jacket for the next day. I live for comfort.

Quickfire round:

  • Ice cream or jammie dodgers? Ice cream!
  • Cluedo or Monopoly? Monopoly - i am highly competitive.
  • Climbing trees or making sandcastles? - sandcastles as I am deathly afraid of heights.
  • Blow bubbles or make a daisy chain? Bubbles!
  • Camp outside or build a den inside - build a den inside. Pillows, blankets, light a candle. Love it.

Can you tell us about what you do and why you love it?

I am an environmental engineer. I absolutely love my job. I am constantly learning and problem solving. I like that there are so many opportunities to explore new technologies out there that I don’t think I will ever be bored with what I do.

Can you tell us a bit about your journey and how you got into what you're doing now?

In high school I despised physics. Truly hated it, but I loved math and the environment. I just stumbled upon the environmental engineering path, and was like wait...this is so cool...this can be my job?!? And then it kind of took off from there.

I got over my hate of physics. But in terms of my sustainability journey, that took me a very long time and I am still learning every single day. I used to think that in order to be a sustainable person, I needed everything plastic free, and I wasn’t allowed to buy fast fashion, or fly on a plane. Now I know it is so so so much more than that. I have learned to suppress those feelings of environmental guilt for not being a 100% perfect environmentalist, and be okay with doing the absolute best I can.
